Pomacanthus xanthometopon, commonly known as the Yellowface Angelfish, is a captivating large marine angelfish prized for its vivid blue body contrasted by a bright yellow forehead and striking facial markings. This adult specimen is a bold addition to any mature marine aquarium.
Care Level: This species is best suited for advanced aquarists due to its size, dietary needs, and territorial temperament.
Temperament and Compatibility: Pomacanthus xanthometopon is semi-aggressive and can be territorial, especially towards conspecifics and other angelfish. It is generally compatible with other robust fish species but caution is advised when housing with smaller or more passive tank mates.
Diet: Omnivorous, requiring a varied diet including marine algae, sponges, and high-quality meaty foods such as mysis shrimp and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding of vitamin-enriched foods is recommended to maintain vibrant colouration and health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 300 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial aggression. The aquarium should be well-established with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting is sufficient, mimicking natural reef conditions. Moderate water flow is ideal to ensure good oxygenation without stressing the fish.
Placement: Provide ample rockwork and caves to establish territories and reduce stress. Avoid overcrowding to minimise aggression.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 38 cm (15 inches) in length.
