Pomacanthus navarchus, commonly known as the Blue-girdled Angelfish or Majestic Angelfish, is a visually stunning species prized by marine aquarium enthusiasts. This adult specimen reaches a medium size and displays striking blue, yellow, and black patterns that make it a standout addition to any large marine tank.
Care Level: This species is best suited for advanced hobbyists due to its specific dietary needs and territorial temperament.
Temperament and Compatibility: Pomacanthus navarchus is known to be semi-aggressive and territorial, especially towards conspecifics and similar angelfish species. It is generally compatible with other robust marine fish but should be housed with caution alongside smaller, more peaceful species.
Diet: This angelfish requires a varied diet rich in marine algae, sponges, and meaty foods. Offer a mix of high-quality frozen or fresh seafood, spirulina, and specialised angelfish preparations to ensure optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 250 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territory. The aquarium should include plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots.
Water Conditions: Maintain stable marine parameters with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025 SG, and moderate water flow.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While Pomacanthus navarchus may nip at sessile invertebrates such as corals and clams, some individuals can be kept in reef aquariums if monitored closely.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 30 cm (12 inches) in captivity.
