Pomacanthus navarchus, commonly known as the Blue-girdled Angelfish or Majestic Angelfish, is a stunning addition to any large marine aquarium. This adult specimen displays the characteristic vivid blue and yellow markings that make it a sought-after species among marine fish enthusiasts.
Care Level: This species is best suited for advanced aquarists due to its size and specific care requirements.
Temperament: Pomacanthus navarchus is semi-aggressive and territorial, especially towards conspecifics and similar species. It is generally compatible with other large, robust fish but may harass smaller or more timid tankmates.
Diet: An omnivorous feeder, it requires a varied diet including marine algae, sponges, and high-quality meaty foods such as mysis shrimp and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding of prepared angelfish diets is recommended to ensure nutritional balance.
Minimum Tank Size: Due to its large adult size, a minimum tank volume of 300 litres (approximately 80 gallons) is advised to provide ample swimming space and territory.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard reef aquarium lighting and moderate water flow are suitable. Ensure stable water parameters with excellent filtration and regular maintenance.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding places to reduce stress. This species appreciates a well-structured environment with caves and crevices.
Origin: Native to the Indo-Pacific region, particularly around Indonesia and the Philippines.
Maximum Size: Adults can reach up to 38 cm (15 inches) in length.
Reef Safety: With Caution – While generally reef safe, Pomacanthus navarchus may nip at sessile invertebrates such as corals and clam mantles, so caution is advised in reef setups.
