The Bermuda Blue Angelfish (Holacanthus bermudensis) is a captivating marine fish native to the western Atlantic Ocean, particularly around Bermuda and the Caribbean. Recognised for its vivid blue body contrasted with bright yellow highlights, this angelfish adds a splash of colour and dynamic movement to large marine aquariums.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and a well-established tank.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. Suitable for larger community tanks with other robust fish but may show territorial behaviour, especially towards conspecifics or similar species.
Diet: Omnivorous. Provide a varied diet including high-quality marine angelfish pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and marine algae to ensure optimal health and vibrant colouration.
Minimum Tank Size: 250 litres (approximately 65 gallons). Due to their active swimming and territorial nature, a spacious aquarium with plenty of hiding places and live rock is essential.
Lighting Requirements: Moderate lighting to support the growth of natural algae and maintain the fish’s natural behaviour.
Water Flow: Moderate water flow mimicking natural reef currents is ideal.
Placement: Best kept singly or as a mated pair in a large tank. Provide ample rockwork for grazing and shelter.
Origin: Western Atlantic, including Bermuda and Caribbean regions.
Maximum Size: Up to 30 cm (12 inches) in length.
Regular water changes and stable water chemistry are critical for the health of the Bermuda Blue Angelfish. Avoid housing with overly aggressive species or very small, timid fish. This angelfish is not reef safe and may nip at corals and sessile invertebrates.
