Centropyge ferrugata, commonly known as the Rusty Angelfish, is a captivating addition to any large marine aquarium. This species displays a beautiful rusty-orange coloration with subtle blue highlights, making it a standout specimen for experienced marine aquarists.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. The Rusty Angelfish requires stable water parameters and a well-established tank with plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. While generally peaceful towards other fish, it may show territorial behaviour, especially towards conspecifics or similar species.
Diet: Omnivorous. Provide a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and specialised angelfish preparations to ensure optimal health.
Minimum Tank Size: 150 litres. This species needs ample swimming space and territories to reduce stress and aggression.
Reef Compatibility: With Caution. While generally considered reef safe, it may nip at soft corals, clam mantles, or sessile invertebrates. Monitor closely in reef setups.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard moderate lighting and moderate water flow are suitable, replicating its natural reef environment.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and shelter. Position in a well-established aquarium to reduce stress.
Origin: Western Pacific Ocean, including Japan and surrounding waters.
Maximum Size: Up to 12 cm (approximately 4.7 inches).
