Centropyge ferrugata, commonly known as the Rusty Angelfish, is a captivating addition to any marine aquarium. This medium-sized dwarf angelfish displays a vibrant rusty-orange body with subtle blue highlights, making it a visually stunning specimen.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and a mature tank environment.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. It can be territorial, especially towards other dwarf angelfish or similar-shaped species. Best kept singly or as a mated pair in larger tanks.
Diet: Omnivorous. Feed a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and specialised angelfish preparations to ensure optimal health.
Minimum Tank Size: 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons). A well-established aquarium with ample live rock for grazing and hiding places is essential.
Reef Compatibility: With Caution. While generally reef safe, it may nip at corals or clam mantles, so careful monitoring is advised.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard reef lighting and moderate water flow are suitable to mimic natural conditions.
