The Foxface Rabbitfish (Siganus vulpinus) is a popular choice among marine aquarists due to its striking appearance and beneficial algae-grazing behaviour. This species features a bright yellow body contrasted by a distinctive black mask covering its face, making it a visually captivating addition to any large marine aquarium.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, the Foxface Rabbitfish can coexist well with other non-aggressive tank mates. However, it may display territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar species, so it is best kept singly or in a well-planned community setup.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous, Siganus vulpinus thrives on a diet rich in marine algae and seaweed. Supplementing with high-quality herbivore pellets, flakes, and occasional meaty foods ensures balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: Due to its potential adult size of up to 23 cm, a minimum tank size of 150 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space and reduce stress. The aquarium should have plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding places to mimic its natural environment.
Reef Compatibility: Considered reef safe with caution, this species may nip at soft corals and clam mantles, so careful monitoring is advised when housed in reef systems.
Care Level: Moderate. Suitable for aquarists with some experience in marine fish husbandry.
