The Foxface Rabbitfish (Siganus vulpinus) is a popular choice among marine aquarium hobbyists due to its vivid yellow colouring contrasted by a bold black mask across its face. This medium-sized fish is a peaceful herbivore that helps control algae growth in reef tanks.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, the Foxface Rabbitfish coexists well with other non-aggressive fish species. It may display mild territorial behaviour but is not known to be aggressive. Exercise caution when housing with very small or slow-moving fish.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous, this species thrives on a diet rich in marine algae and seaweed. Supplement with high-quality prepared foods such as spirulina flakes, nori sheets, and vegetable-based pellets to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space. Maintain stable water parameters with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.020-1.025, and pH between 8.1 and 8.4.
Reef Compatibility: The Foxface Rabbitfish is reef safe with caution. While it generally avoids corals, it may nip at soft corals or clam mantles if underfed.
Care Level: Moderate. Suitable for hobbyists with some experience in marine fish care.
