Acanthurus fowleri, commonly known as Fowler’s Surgeonfish, is a visually captivating tang prized for its vibrant blue and yellow markings and dynamic swimming patterns. This extra large specimen is best suited for experienced marine aquarists with ample tank space.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced care is recommended due to its size and active nature.
Temperament: Generally semi-aggressive; may show territorial behaviour towards other tangs or similar-shaped fish. Best kept singly or in a large, well-structured aquarium to reduce stress.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous. Provide a varied diet rich in marine algae, seaweed sheets (nori), and high-quality herbivore pellets or flakes. Supplement with occasional meaty foods to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: Minimum tank size of 250 litres is advised to accommodate its active swimming and territorial needs. Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding places.
Compatibility: Compatible with a range of peaceful to semi-aggressive species but avoid housing with other tangs of similar size and shape to minimise territorial disputes.
Reef Safety: With caution. May nip at some sessile invertebrates or coral polyps, so monitor closely in reef setups.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, and good water quality with regular water changes.
