Siganus argenteus, commonly known as the Silver Rabbitfish, is a visually stunning addition to any marine aquarium. This medium-sized fish features a sleek silver body with subtle markings and delicate fins, making it a graceful presence in your tank.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, the Silver Rabbitfish coexists well with other non-aggressive species. It is best kept with similarly sized or larger fish to avoid stress. Avoid housing with very small or highly territorial species.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous, Siganus argenteus thrives on a diet rich in marine algae and seaweed. Supplement with high-quality herbivore pellets and occasional meaty foods to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: Due to its active swimming behaviour and adult size, a minimum tank volume of 150 litres is recommended. Provide ample live rock for grazing and hiding spots to mimic its natural habitat.
Reef Compatibility: Reef safe with caution. While generally peaceful, this rabbitfish may nip at some soft corals and polyps. Monitor behaviour closely in reef environments.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, and moderate water flow.
With proper care, the Silver Rabbitfish is a valuable algae controller and a striking focal point in marine aquaria.
