Discosoma spp., commonly known as mushroom corals, are popular soft corals prized for their vibrant colours and ease of care. This special selected large specimen offers a striking addition to any marine reef aquarium.
Lighting: Moderate lighting is ideal for Discosoma spp. They thrive under LED, T5, or metal halide lighting but should be acclimated to avoid bleaching.
Water Flow: Low to moderate water flow is recommended to ensure healthy polyp extension without causing tissue damage.
Placement: Position this coral on rockwork or substrate in shaded or semi-shaded areas to prevent excessive light exposure. Ensure adequate spacing from aggressive corals to avoid stinging or overgrowth.
Care Level: Suitable for beginner to intermediate aquarists due to their hardy nature and adaptability.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing from neighbouring corals. Avoid placing near aggressive species that may harm the soft tissue.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae but will benefit from occasional feeding of fine particulate foods such as phytoplankton or coral-specific liquid foods.
Additional Notes: Maintain stable water parameters with regular testing and water changes. Avoid sudden changes in lighting or flow to reduce stress.
