Paracanthurus hepatus, commonly known as the Blue Tang or Regal Tang, is a strikingly colourful tang species prized in the marine aquarium hobby. Our stock is tank-bred, ensuring healthier specimens with reduced impact on wild populations.
Appearance: Featuring a vibrant royal blue body with black markings and a bright yellow tail, the Blue Tang is a visually captivating fish that adds dynamic movement and colour to your aquarium.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but active swimmers, Blue Tangs can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar species. They are best kept singly or in a large tank with ample space to reduce aggression. Compatible with a variety of other peaceful marine fish.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous, they thrive on a diet rich in marine algae and seaweed. Supplement with high-quality prepared foods such as spirulina flakes, pellets, and occasional meaty treats to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: Due to their active nature and potential size (up to 30cm), a minimum tank size of 150 litres is recommended, with larger volumes preferred for multiple individuals. Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots.
Water Conditions: Maintain stable marine parameters: temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.020-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow. Regular water changes and good filtration are essential to support their health.
Reef Compatibility: Generally considered reef safe with caution, as they may nip at coral polyps or clam mantles, especially if underfed.
Our tank-bred Blue Tangs are available in various sizes, allowing you to select the perfect specimen for your aquarium setup.
