Pseudojuloides atavai is a beautifully coloured wrasse species prized for its vibrant hues and active behaviour. Sold as a pair, these fish add dynamic movement and striking colour to mature marine aquariums.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water conditions and a well-established tank.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but may show territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar wrasses. Best kept in pairs or singly unless the tank is very large.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet of high-quality frozen or live meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplement with specialised pellet or flake foods formulated for marine carnivores.
Minimum Tank Size: 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) recommended to provide ample swimming space and territories.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard reef lighting and moderate water flow are suitable. Avoid overly strong currents as this species prefers moderate flow zones.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging. The pair will appreciate caves and crevices to establish territories and retreat when stressed.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Approximately 10 cm (4 inches).
Additional Notes: Pseudojuloides atavai pairs are best introduced to established reef tanks with stable parameters. They are reef safe with caution, as they may prey on very small invertebrates. Monitor compatibility with other wrasses and similarly sized fish to reduce aggression.
