Macropharyngodon moyeri is a striking wrasse species known for its vibrant colours and peaceful temperament, making it a popular choice for marine aquarium enthusiasts. Native to the Indo-Pacific region, this species thrives in well-established reef tanks with plenty of live rock for shelter and foraging.
These wrasses are generally peaceful and can be kept with a variety of other non-aggressive fish species. They are best housed in a minimum tank size of 120 litres to provide ample swimming space and to accommodate their active nature.
Diet should consist of a varied selection of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and high-quality marine pellets or flakes. Feeding multiple times daily in small amounts helps mimic their natural feeding habits and promotes optimal health.
While Macropharyngodon moyeri is considered reef safe, caution is advised as some individuals may nip at small invertebrates or sessile animals. Providing plenty of hiding places and a well-maintained environment will help reduce stress and encourage natural behaviour.
Regular water changes and stable water parameters are essential for the wellbeing of this species. Ideal water conditions include a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025, and pH between 8.1 and 8.4.
