Clepticus parrae, known as the Rainbow Wrasse, is a visually stunning species prized for its vibrant colours and active swimming behaviour. This large variant is an excellent addition to well-established marine aquariums, offering dynamic movement and a splash of colour.
Care Level: Moderate. This species requires stable water parameters and a suitably sized tank to thrive.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but may show mild territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar wrasses. Best kept singly or in a large, well-structured aquarium to reduce aggression.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplement with marine pellets or flakes formulated for carnivorous fish.
Minimum Tank Size: 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons). This allows ample swimming space and territory establishment.
Lighting Requirements: Standard marine aquarium lighting is sufficient. No special lighting needed.
Water Flow: Moderate water flow mimicking natural reef currents is ideal to keep the fish active and healthy.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for hiding and grazing. Ensure open swimming areas and caves or crevices for retreat.
Origin: Western Atlantic Ocean, including Caribbean reefs.
Maximum Size: Up to 25 cm (10 inches) in length.
Reef Compatibility: With Caution. Generally compatible with reef tanks but may prey on small invertebrates such as shrimps or small crabs.
