Cirrhilabrus tonozukai, commonly known as Tonozuka’s Wrasse, is a strikingly colourful marine fish native to the Western Pacific. The male displays vibrant hues that make it a prized specimen for reef aquarium enthusiasts.
Care Level: Moderate to Advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and a well-established tank.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be territorial with conspecifics or similar wrasses. Best kept singly or in a large tank with plenty of hiding spaces.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet including high-quality frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and specialised marine pellets or flakes. Supplement with live foods when possible to encourage natural hunting behaviour.
Minimum Tank Size: 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) to provide ample swimming space and territories.
Reef Compatibility: Yes. Cirrhilabrus tonozukai is considered reef safe and generally does not harm corals or sessile invertebrates.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard reef lighting and moderate water flow are suitable to mimic natural conditions.
Placement: Mid to upper levels of the aquarium, where it can swim freely and display its colours.
Origin: Western Pacific Ocean.
Maximum Size: Approximately 8 cm (3 inches).
Ensure a secure lid as wrasses are known jumpers. Provide plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging. Regular water changes and stable water chemistry will promote health and vibrant colouration.
