Laboute’s Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus laboutei) is a stunning wrasse species prized for its vivid colours and graceful swimming behaviour. This large specimen is ideal for marine aquarium enthusiasts seeking an active yet peaceful fish to enhance their reef setup.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, Laboute’s Fairy Wrasse coexists well with other non-aggressive fish species. Avoid housing with large predatory fish that may view it as prey. It is reef safe with caution, as it may occasionally nip at small invertebrates.
Diet: Carnivorous by nature, this wrasse thrives on a varied diet including high-quality frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and specialised marine pellets. Regular feeding 2-3 times daily supports vibrant colouration and health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territory. Well-established aquariums with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging are ideal.
Water Parameters and Environment: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 specific gravity, and moderate water flow. Moderate lighting suits this species well, replicating its natural reef habitat.
Origin: Native to the western Pacific Ocean, particularly around New Caledonia and nearby regions.
Laboute’s Fairy Wrasse is a captivating addition to any marine aquarium, combining beauty with manageable care requirements for dedicated hobbyists.
