Amphiprion clarkii (Yellow) – Tank-Bred Clownfish is a popular and resilient species well-suited to a variety of marine aquarium setups. Known for its striking yellow coloration and adaptability, this clownfish is a favourite among both novice and experienced aquarists.
Temperament and Compatibility: Amphiprion clarkii is generally peaceful but can be territorial, especially when paired or kept with other clownfish. It is compatible with a wide range of reef-safe tank mates, making it an excellent addition to community reef aquariums.
Diet: This species thrives on a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, flakes, frozen mysis shrimp, and other meaty marine foods. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) is advised to provide ample swimming space and territory. Stable water parameters with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025 SG, and pH between 8.1-8.4 are ideal.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting and gentle to moderate water flow suit this species well, replicating their natural reef environment.
Placement: Amphiprion clarkii often forms symbiotic relationships with host anemones such as Heteractis magnifica or Stichodactyla gigantea, but can also thrive without anemones in a well-established reef tank.
Origin: Tank-bred specimens are bred in captivity, ensuring hardiness and reduced impact on wild populations.
Maximum Size: Typically grows up to 12 cm (4.7 inches) in length.
