The Decorator Crab (Caribbean) is a captivating marine invertebrate popular among reef aquarium enthusiasts for its unique behaviour of camouflaging itself with algae, sponges, and other materials. This natural decoration not only provides protection but also adds an intriguing dynamic to your tank.
Care Level: Easy to moderate. These crabs are generally hardy but require stable water conditions and a well-established aquarium.
Diet: Omnivorous scavengers that feed on algae, detritus, and leftover food. Supplement their diet with meaty foods such as finely chopped shrimp or fish to ensure balanced nutrition.
Compatibility: Reef safe with caution. While generally peaceful, they may occasionally nip at small sessile invertebrates or slow-moving tank mates. Avoid housing with very small or delicate species.
Tank Requirements: Minimum tank size of 30 litres is recommended to provide adequate space and stable water parameters. Moderate water flow and standard marine lighting are suitable.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock and hiding places to allow natural behaviour and camouflage. They thrive in mature reef setups with ample biofilm and algae growth.
Origin: Caribbean Sea.
Maximum Size: Typically up to 5 cm across the carapace.
Adding a Caribbean Decorator Crab to your marine aquarium not only enhances biodiversity but also contributes to natural algae control, making it a valuable and visually interesting invertebrate for hobbyists.
