Chromis opercularis is a popular damselfish species prized for its striking colours and peaceful nature. This species is suitable for a variety of marine aquarium setups, especially community tanks with other non-aggressive fish.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, Chromis opercularis coexists well with other peaceful fish species. It may display mild territorial behaviour but is not overly aggressive, making it a good choice for mixed-species tanks.
Diet: An omnivorous feeder, this damselfish thrives on a varied diet including high-quality flake, pellet foods, frozen mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 2-3 times daily is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) is advised to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial disputes. Stable water parameters with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.020-1.025 SG, and pH between 8.1-8.4 are ideal.
Care Level: Suitable for beginner to intermediate aquarists due to its hardy nature and adaptability.
Reef Compatibility: Chromis opercularis is generally reef safe, though caution is advised as some individuals may nip at coral polyps or small invertebrates.
Available in various sizes, this species can be selected to suit your aquarium setup and stocking preferences.
