The Black Clownfish (Amphiprion percula) is a captivating variant of the popular clownfish species, prized for its deep black coloration contrasted with bright white bands. Tank-bred in Papua New Guinea (PNG), these fish are well-adapted to captive life, making them an excellent choice for marine aquarium enthusiasts of all levels.
Temperament and Compatibility: This species is generally peaceful and can be kept singly or in pairs. They coexist well with other non-aggressive fish and are famously compatible with host anemones such as Heteractis magnifica and Entacmaea quadricolor. However, avoid housing them with overly aggressive tank mates to reduce stress.
Diet: Black Clownfish are omnivorous and thrive on a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Feeding 2-3 times daily in small portions is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is advised to provide adequate swimming space and territory. Stable water parameters with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025 SG, and pH between 8.1-8.4 are essential. Moderate lighting and gentle to moderate water flow suit their natural reef environment.
Reef Safety: This species is considered reef safe and can be kept in reef aquariums with corals and invertebrates without issue.
Available in various sizes, these tank-bred Black Clownfish offer a stunning addition to any marine setup, combining beauty, hardiness, and ease of care.
