Zoanthus spp. (Green) are popular soft coral polyps known for their vibrant green coloration and ease of care, making them an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced marine aquarists.
This Tiny Tank-Bred variant is ideal for adding a splash of colour and texture to your reef aquarium. As soft corals, Zoanthus spp. are colonial polyps that spread over rock surfaces, creating beautiful mats.
Care and Husbandry
- Lighting: Moderate lighting is recommended. Zoanthus spp. thrive under LED or T5 lighting setups that provide balanced PAR levels without excessive intensity.
- Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal to keep the polyps gently swaying and to prevent detritus buildup.
- Placement: Place on stable rockwork with enough space to allow colony expansion. Avoid direct contact with aggressive corals to prevent chemical warfare.
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and stable alkalinity and calcium levels.
Compatibility and Reef Safety
Zoanthus spp. are generally reef safe with adequate spacing from neighbouring corals to avoid competition. They are compatible with most peaceful reef inhabitants but should be monitored for overgrowth.
Additional Notes
These corals are tank-bred, ensuring hardiness and acclimation to aquarium conditions. Regular observation and water quality maintenance will promote healthy growth and vibrant colouration.
