Feeding & Nutrition: Tridacna maxima clams primarily rely on photosynthesis via their symbiotic zooxanthellae algae, requiring strong lighting to thrive. They also benefit from supplemental feeding of phytoplankton or specialised clam foods, especially in lower nutrient systems.
Lighting Requirements: High-intensity lighting is essential to support photosynthesis. LED, T5, or metal halide lighting systems are recommended to provide the necessary PAR levels.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal to ensure adequate nutrient exchange without causing mantle damage.
Placement: Position the clam on a stable, hard substrate such as rock or coral skeleton in the well-lit upper to mid-level areas of the aquarium. Avoid placing near aggressive corals or fish that may nip at the mantle.
