The Tridacna maxima (Greenish) is a small yet striking giant clam species popular in marine reef aquariums. At around 4cm, this clam displays beautiful greenish hues that add vibrant colour and natural movement to your tank.
Care and Husbandry: This species requires moderate to strong lighting to support its symbiotic zooxanthellae algae, which provide much of its nutritional needs. Supplementary feeding with phytoplankton or specialised clam foods is recommended to promote healthy growth.
Stable water parameters are essential, with a temperature range of 24-28°C, salinity between 1.023-1.025 SG, and calcium levels around 400-450 ppm to support shell development. Moderate water flow is ideal to prevent sediment accumulation on the clam’s mantle while avoiding strong currents that could stress the animal.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: Tridacna maxima is generally reef safe and compatible with most peaceful reef inhabitants. Avoid housing with aggressive fish or invertebrates that may nip at the clam’s mantle. Placement on a stable substrate or rockwork in a well-lit area is recommended.
With attentive care, this clam can thrive and grow, becoming a stunning focal point in your marine aquarium.
