The Tridacna Crocea clam is a popular choice for marine reef aquarists seeking a visually stunning and relatively hardy invertebrate. At approximately 12cm, this clam is a medium-sized specimen that can become a captivating focal point in your reef aquarium.
Tridacna Crocea clams host symbiotic zooxanthellae algae within their mantles, which provide them with nutrients through photosynthesis. Therefore, strong lighting is essential to support their health and vibrant colours. Moderate to strong water flow is recommended to ensure proper gas exchange and to prevent detritus accumulation around the clam.
Placement should be on a stable, hard substrate such as live rock or specialised coral plugs, where the clam can securely attach itself. Avoid placing near aggressive corals or invertebrates that may harm its delicate mantle.
Feeding is generally not required if lighting and water quality are optimal, but occasional supplementation with phytoplankton or specialised clam foods can support growth and vitality.
Tridacna Crocea clams are reef safe and compatible with most peaceful reef inhabitants, making them an excellent addition to mature reef systems. However, they require stable water parameters and careful acclimation.
