Triakis scyllium, commonly known as the Spotted Houndshark, is a temperate water species native to the coastal waters of the northwestern Pacific. This medium-sized shark is a captivating specimen for advanced marine aquarium enthusiasts who can provide the necessary environment and care.
Care Level: Due to its size and specific environmental needs, Triakis scyllium is recommended for experienced keepers only.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but can be territorial, especially with conspecifics or smaller fish. Best housed singly or with similarly sized, robust tank mates. Avoid small or slow-moving fish that may be seen as prey.

Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 600 litres is advised to accommodate its active swimming behaviour and growth potential. Provide ample open swimming space with a sandy substrate and some rockwork for shelter.
Water Parameters: As a temperate species, it prefers cooler water temperatures between 16-22°C. Stable water quality with moderate water flow is essential.
Reef Safety: No – not suitable for reef aquaria due to predatory nature and size.
Origin: Northwestern Pacific Ocean, including coastal waters around Japan, Korea, and China.
Maximum Size: Up to approximately 1 metre in length in captivity.
