Stethojulis bandanensis, commonly known as the Bandan Wrasse, is a vibrant and peaceful marine fish native to the Indo-Pacific region. The female exhibits striking colours that add dynamic movement and interest to reef aquariums.
This species thrives best in well-established marine tanks with plenty of open swimming space and live rock for shelter. They are generally peaceful but may show some territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar wrasses, so careful consideration is advised when housing multiple wrasses.
Diet: Stethojulis bandanensis is carnivorous and benefits from a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding promotes vibrant colouration and overall health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres is recommended to provide sufficient swimming room. Stable water parameters and good water quality are essential for their wellbeing.
Compatibility: This species is generally reef safe with caution, as it may occasionally pick at small invertebrates. It is compatible with a range of peaceful fish species but avoid aggressive tank mates.
Care Level: Moderate – suitable for aquarists with some marine experience.
