Sinularia spp. (Yellow-Green) – Extra Large is a captivating soft leather coral prized for its vibrant yellow-green hues and dynamic, finger-like polyps. This species belongs to the genus Sinularia, known for its hardy nature and moderate care needs, making it a popular choice among marine aquarists with some reef experience.
These corals thrive under moderate lighting conditions, such as T5 fluorescents or LED reef lights, which support their symbiotic zooxanthellae without causing bleaching. Moderate to strong, indirect water flow is ideal to keep the polyps gently swaying, which aids in nutrient exchange and prevents detritus accumulation.
Placement within the aquarium should consider adequate spacing from neighbouring corals to avoid aggressive interactions, as Sinularia spp. can extend sweeper tentacles. Positioning on rockwork or reef structures where water flow is consistent but not turbulent will promote healthy growth.
Regular monitoring of water parameters is essential; maintain stable conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity around 1.025 SG, and low nutrient levels to prevent algae overgrowth. Feeding is generally not required as they derive nutrition primarily from photosynthesis, but occasional supplementation with planktonic foods can encourage growth.
Due to its size and growth rate, this extra large specimen is best suited to established reef tanks with a minimum volume of 150 litres. It is reef safe with adequate spacing, but care should be taken when housing alongside delicate or slow-growing corals.
