Siganus puellus, commonly referred to as the Foxface Rabbitfish, is a popular choice among marine aquarists for its vibrant yellow and black markings and peaceful nature. This medium-sized fish is an excellent algae grazer, helping to control unwanted algae growth in your aquarium.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, the Foxface Rabbitfish coexists well with other non-aggressive species. It may display mild territorial behaviour but is not known to be aggressive. Avoid housing with very small or slow-moving fish that may be intimidated.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous, Siganus puellus thrives on a diet rich in marine algae and seaweed. Supplement with high-quality herbivore pellets, flakes, and occasional meaty foods to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space. The aquarium should be well-established with live rock to support natural grazing behaviour.
Care Level: Moderate. Requires stable water parameters and a varied diet to maintain health.
Reef Compatibility: Yes, with caution. While generally reef safe, they may nip at soft corals or clam mantles, so monitor behaviour closely.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard marine aquarium lighting and moderate water flow are suitable. Ensure good water quality with regular maintenance.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 20 cm (approximately 8 inches).
