The Rhinecanthus aculeatus, commonly referred to as the Picasso Triggerfish, is a visually captivating species prized for its bold patterns and vibrant colours. This Extra Large specimen is perfect for advanced marine aquarium enthusiasts who can provide the space and care it requires.
Temperament and Compatibility: Picasso Triggerfish are known for their territorial and sometimes aggressive behaviour, especially towards smaller or more passive tank mates. It is recommended to house them with similarly sized or robust species and avoid keeping them with small, timid fish or invertebrates that may be harassed.
Diet: This species is omnivorous and thrives on a varied diet including meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, chopped seafood, and specialised marine pellets or flakes. Regular feeding of high-quality foods will ensure vibrant colours and good health.
Tank Requirements: Due to their size and activity level, a minimum tank size of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) is advised. The aquarium should have plenty of rockwork and hiding places to establish territories and reduce stress.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with a temperature between 24-27°C, salinity of 1.020-1.025 SG, and pH of 8.1-8.4. Moderate water flow is preferred to mimic their natural reef environment.
Reef Safety: With Caution. While not strictly reef safe, Picasso Triggerfish may nip at invertebrates or corals, so they are best kept in fish-only or fish-dominant setups.
