The Banggai Cardinalfish (Pterapogon kauderni) is a captivating and peaceful species native to the Banggai Islands of Indonesia. Our stock is tank-bred, ensuring healthier specimens better adapted to aquarium life and helping to reduce wild collection pressures.
These fish display striking black and white vertical stripes with elongated fins, making them a popular choice for marine aquarists seeking a visually appealing yet manageable species. They thrive in well-established reef or community tanks and are generally peaceful, though they may show mild territorial behaviour towards conspecifics if kept in insufficient numbers.
Care Requirements:
- Tank Size: A minimum of 75 litres is recommended to provide adequate swimming space and stable water parameters.
- Diet: Carnivorous; feed a varied diet of high-quality frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and specialised pellet or flake foods formulated for carnivorous marine fish.
- Temperament: Peaceful and suitable for community tanks with other non-aggressive species. Keep in groups of at least 3 to reduce stress and encourage natural behaviour.
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
- Reef Compatibility: Yes, safe for reef aquariums.
Tank-bred Banggai Cardinalfish are hardy and adapt well to aquarium life, making them an excellent choice for both novice and experienced marine hobbyists. Their moderate size and peaceful nature complement a wide range of community setups.
