Pseudochromis elongatus, commonly known as the elongate dottyback, is a popular choice for marine aquarium enthusiasts seeking a vibrant and hardy fish. Our stock is tank-bred, ensuring healthier specimens better adapted to aquarium life.
Temperament and Compatibility: This species exhibits a semi-aggressive temperament typical of dottybacks. It is best kept singly or as a mated pair in tanks with ample hiding places. Care should be taken when housing with smaller, timid fish or other dottybacks to avoid territorial disputes.
Diet: Pseudochromis elongatus is carnivorous and thrives on a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplement with quality pellet or flake foods formulated for marine carnivores.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient territory and reduce aggression. The aquarium should feature plenty of live rock for shelter and exploration.
Reef Compatibility: This species is generally reef safe with caution. It may prey on small invertebrates or ornamental shrimp, so caution is advised when housing with delicate reef inhabitants.
Water Parameters and Environment: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and moderate water flow. Lighting requirements are standard for marine fish and should be compatible with reef setups.
Our tank-bred Pseudochromis elongatus are available in various sizes, allowing you to select the ideal specimen for your aquarium.
