The Pomacanthus semicirculatus, commonly referred to as the Koran Angelfish, is a visually captivating species prized for its bold colours and distinctive semicircular markings. This large angelfish is suitable for advanced marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its size and specific care needs.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced care is recommended. This species requires stable water conditions and a well-established aquarium.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. It may show territorial behaviour, especially towards other angelfish or similar-shaped species.
Diet: Omnivorous. Provide a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis shrimp, and other meaty foods to ensure optimal health and vibrant colouration.
Minimum Tank Size: At least 250 litres (approximately 65 gallons) to accommodate its adult size and swimming needs.
Reef Safe: With Caution. While generally compatible with many reef setups, it may nip at sessile invertebrates such as corals and clam mantles.
Lighting Requirements: Standard marine aquarium lighting is sufficient; no special lighting needed.
Water Flow: Moderate water movement to mimic natural reef environments.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots. Ensure ample swimming space.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 40 cm (approximately 16 inches) in length.
Regular water changes and stable water parameters are essential for maintaining health. Avoid keeping with overly aggressive species or smaller peaceful fish that may be stressed by its presence.
