Pomacanthus asfur, known as the Asfur Angelfish, is a visually stunning marine fish prized for its bold pattern and vibrant blue and yellow hues. This extra large specimen is perfect for experienced marine aquarists seeking a showpiece fish.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced care is recommended due to its size and dietary needs.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. It can be territorial, especially towards other angelfish or similar-shaped species. Best kept singly or with robust tank mates.
Diet: Omnivorous. Provide a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis shrimp, and other meaty foods to ensure optimal health and colouration.
Minimum Tank Size: At least 300 litres (approximately 80 gallons) to accommodate its adult size and swimming needs.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. May nip at sessile invertebrates such as corals and clam mantles, so not recommended for delicate reef tanks.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025 SG, and good water quality.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots. Ensure ample swimming space.
Origin: Native to the Red Sea and western Indian Ocean.
Maximum Size: Up to 35 cm (14 inches) in length.
Due to its size and temperament, the Pomacanthus asfur is best suited to larger, well-established marine aquariums with experienced keepers who can provide the necessary care and environment.
