Plexaurella spp. are a genus of soft corals belonging to the gorgonian family, prized for their graceful branching structures and subtle movement in reef aquariums. This small-sized specimen is suitable for marine hobbyists with some experience in maintaining soft corals.
Lighting: Moderate lighting is recommended to support healthy growth without causing stress. Avoid intense direct light which may bleach the coral.
Water Flow: Moderate to strong, indirect water flow helps keep the coral clean and promotes polyp extension. Avoid direct, high-velocity currents that could damage delicate branches.
Placement: Position the coral where it has space to expand without crowding neighbouring corals. Adequate spacing reduces competition and prevents physical damage.
Care: Plexaurella spp. require stable water parameters typical of reef aquariums, including consistent salinity, temperature, and low nutrient levels. Feeding is generally not necessary as they derive nutrition from photosynthetic symbionts, but occasional supplementation with planktonic foods can be beneficial.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing. Avoid placing near aggressive corals that may sting or overshadow.
