Panulirus femoristriga is a large species of spiny lobster prized for its distinctive appearance and active behaviour. This invertebrate is best suited to experienced marine aquarium keepers due to its specific care requirements and territorial nature.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced care is recommended. This species requires stable water parameters and a well-established tank environment.
Diet: Omnivorous scavenger. Feed a varied diet including meaty foods such as chopped fish, shrimp, and specialised crustacean pellets. Supplement with algae and detritus to mimic natural feeding habits.
Compatibility: Generally semi-aggressive and territorial. Avoid housing with small, slow-moving or delicate fish and invertebrates. Best kept with larger, robust tank mates or in a species-specific setup.
Reef Safety: With Caution. May prey on small invertebrates and sessile reef animals. Not recommended for delicate reef tanks.
Tank Requirements: Minimum tank size of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) is advised to provide adequate space and hiding places. Provide plenty of live rock for shelter and crevices to reduce stress and aggression.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
Placement: Best placed in the lower to middle regions of the aquarium where it can forage and find shelter.
