Neotrygon kuhlii, commonly known as Kuhl’s Maskray, is a captivating species of stingray prized for its distinctive pattern and graceful swimming. This large ray is best suited for advanced marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its specific care requirements and size.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Requires stable water parameters and ample space.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but should be housed with similarly sized or non-aggressive tank mates to avoid stress or injury.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, and specialised ray pellets to ensure optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 300 litres is recommended for a large individual, with a soft sandy substrate to protect its delicate underside. Provide plenty of open swimming space and gentle water flow.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity around 1.023-1.025 SG, and excellent filtration to ensure water quality.
Compatibility: Best kept with peaceful, robust fish species. Avoid small or aggressive tank mates that may harass or be preyed upon.
Origin: Native to the Indo-West Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to approximately 40 cm disc width in captivity.
