Mycedium spp. are visually striking large polyp stony (LPS) corals belonging to the family Pectiniidae. Known for their textured, plate-like colonies with vibrant colours, they add impressive structure and movement to mature reef aquariums.

Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is recommended to maintain healthy pigmentation and growth. LED or T5 lighting systems that provide a balanced spectrum work well.

Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal to prevent tissue damage while ensuring adequate nutrient exchange.

Placement: Position Mycedium spp. on stable rockwork in the mid to lower regions of the tank. Provide sufficient space from neighbouring corals to avoid aggressive interactions, as they possess sweeper tentacles.

Care Level: Suitable for intermediate to advanced hobbyists due to their specific lighting and flow needs and sensitivity to water quality fluctuations.

Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, but benefit from occasional feeding of meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, or specialised coral foods to support growth.

Reef Compatibility: Yes, with adequate spacing to prevent coral warfare.
