The Lotilia klausewitzi, commonly known as the Clinging Shrimp Goby, forms a remarkable symbiotic partnership with the snapping shrimp Alpheus rubromaculatus. This pair is a captivating addition to marine aquariums, showcasing natural behaviours that enhance the reef environment.
Care and Husbandry: Both species require a well-established marine aquarium with stable water parameters. A minimum tank size of 60 litres is recommended to provide sufficient space for burrowing and territorial behaviour. The tank should have a sandy substrate to facilitate the shrimp’s burrowing activities.
Feeding should include a varied diet of meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Both species are generally peaceful and compatible with other non-aggressive reef inhabitants.
Reef Compatibility: This symbiotic pair is considered reef safe and can coexist with corals and other invertebrates without causing harm.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting and gentle to moderate water flow are ideal to mimic their natural habitat and ensure comfort.
Adding this pair to your marine aquarium not only enriches biodiversity but also provides an engaging display of mutualism in action.
