Inimicus didactylus, commonly known as the Devil Stinger or Two-Fingered Scorpionfish, is a large and visually impressive species prized for its vivid colouration and distinctive morphology. This premium coloured variant is ideal for experienced marine aquarists looking to add a unique predatory fish to their collection.
Care Level: This species requires advanced care due to its venomous spines and specialised feeding habits. It is not recommended for beginners.
Temperament and Compatibility: Inimicus didactylus is generally solitary and territorial. It can be aggressive towards smaller fish and invertebrates, so tank mates should be chosen with caution. Avoid housing with small or slow-moving species.
Diet: Carnivorous by nature, this scorpionfish thrives on a diet of live or frozen meaty foods such as shrimp, small fish, and crustaceans. Feeding should be done carefully to ensure adequate nutrition and to avoid aggression.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum aquarium size of 150 litres (approximately 40 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient space and stable water conditions.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting is suitable, mimicking natural reef shadowed environments. Water flow should be gentle to moderate to replicate its natural habitat without stressing the fish.
Placement: Provide ample hiding places with live rock and sandy substrate where the fish can camouflage and ambush prey. Placement near the bottom of the tank is preferred.
Origin: Native to the Indo-Pacific region, inhabiting sandy or rubble substrates near coral reefs.
Maximum Size: Can grow up to 25 cm in length.
Important Note: This species possesses venomous spines capable of inflicting painful stings. Handle with extreme care and use appropriate tools when performing maintenance.
