The Hydnophora spp. (Green) is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral known for its distinctive green hues and textured, finger-like growths. This tank-bred frag is cultivated under controlled conditions, ensuring a healthy and sustainable addition to your marine aquarium.
Care Level: Moderate – best suited for aquarists with some experience in maintaining LPS corals.
Lighting Requirements: Moderate lighting is ideal, such as LED or T5 fixtures providing a PAR range of approximately 100-200 µmol/m²/s. Avoid intense direct light to prevent bleaching.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is recommended to gently sway the coral’s polyps without causing tissue damage.
Placement: Position the frag on stable rockwork in the middle to lower regions of the tank, allowing space for expansion and to prevent aggression with neighbouring corals.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: Hydnophora spp. is reef safe with adequate spacing. It can extend sweeper tentacles, so maintain a minimum distance of 5-7 cm from other corals to avoid stinging.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, but benefits from occasional feeding of fine particulate foods such as phytoplankton or specialised coral foods.
Additional Notes: Regular water parameter monitoring is essential to maintain stable conditions. Ideal parameters include temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, calcium 400-450 ppm, alkalinity 8-12 dKH, and magnesium 1250-1350 ppm.
