The Queen Angelfish (Holacanthus ciliaris) is a spectacular marine fish prized for its brilliant blue and yellow colouring and distinctive crown-like markings. This extra large specimen is suitable for advanced hobbyists who can provide the space and care this species demands.
Temperament and Compatibility: The Queen Angelfish is semi-aggressive and can be territorial, especially in smaller tanks. It is best housed with other large, robust fish and should not be kept with small, timid species. Avoid keeping multiple angelfish together unless the aquarium is very large.
Diet: This species is omnivorous with a preference for sponges, tunicates, and algae in the wild. In captivity, provide a varied diet including high-quality marine angelfish pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, spirulina, and marine algae to ensure optimal health and vibrant colouration.
Tank Requirements: Due to its large adult size, a minimum tank size of 300 litres (approximately 80 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial behaviour. Stable water parameters with excellent filtration and regular water changes are essential.
Care Level: Advanced. This species requires experienced husbandry, stable water conditions, and a carefully managed diet.
Reef Compatibility: With Caution. The Queen Angelfish may nip at corals and sessile invertebrates, so it is not generally recommended for reef tanks unless monitored closely.
