Hippocampus zosterae, commonly known as the Dwarf Seahorse, is a captivating and delicate species prized by marine aquarium enthusiasts. Our stock is tank-bred, ensuring healthier specimens better adapted to captive conditions.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Dwarf Seahorses require specialised care and stable water parameters.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but slow-moving. Best kept with non-aggressive tank mates to avoid competition for food. Avoid fast or aggressive fish that may outcompete or stress them.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a diet of live or frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, and other suitable small crustaceans. Frequent small feedings are recommended to meet their high metabolic needs.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate swimming space and stable water conditions.
Water Parameters: Maintain temperature between 22-26°C, salinity at 1.020-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and stable water quality with low nitrates.
Lighting and Flow: Moderate lighting is sufficient. Provide gentle water flow to mimic their natural seagrass and mangrove habitats without causing stress.
Placement: Ideal placement includes areas with plenty of hitching posts such as macroalgae, seagrass, or specialised artificial structures to allow the seahorses to anchor themselves.
Origin: Not Provided (Tank-Bred)
Maximum Size: Up to 5 cm (2 inches)
Our tank-bred Dwarf Seahorses come in various sizes, allowing you to select the perfect specimen for your aquarium setup. Their captive breeding reduces the impact on wild populations and improves survivability in home aquaria.
