Heteractis magnifica, commonly known as the Magnificent Sea Anemone, is a visually striking invertebrate prized in marine aquaria for its vibrant tentacles and symbiotic relationship with clownfish species. This small variant is ideal for hobbyists with some experience in maintaining stable reef environments.
Care Level: Moderate care is required to maintain optimal health. Consistent water parameters and adequate lighting are essential.
Feeding: While photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, regular supplemental feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or finely chopped seafood 1-2 times per week is recommended to promote growth and vitality.
Compatibility: Generally reef safe, but caution is advised as the anemone’s long stinging tentacles can harm nearby corals and small invertebrates. It forms mutualistic relationships with certain clownfish species, which can be housed together.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is advised to provide sufficient space and stable water conditions. Moderate to strong lighting and moderate water flow are optimal to mimic natural reef habitats.
Placement: Secure the anemone on a stable rock base in an area with moderate water movement and good lighting. Avoid placing it too close to delicate corals to prevent stinging damage.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 30 cm in diameter in captivity.
