Haemulon sciurus, commonly called the Blue-striped Grunt, is a visually striking marine fish prized for its vibrant blue horizontal stripes and peaceful temperament. This medium-sized snapper is a schooling species that thrives best in groups, making it a captivating addition to larger marine aquariums.

Care Level: Moderate care is recommended due to its size and schooling needs. A minimum tank size of 180 litres is advised to provide ample swimming space and reduce stress.

Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, Haemulon sciurus coexists well with other non-aggressive tank mates. It is best kept in groups of at least 3 to encourage natural schooling behaviour. Avoid housing with overly aggressive species.

Diet: This species is carnivorous and benefits from a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily supports optimal health.

Reef Safety: With caution. While not known to actively harm corals, their foraging behaviour may disturb delicate reef structures. Suitable for reef tanks with robust corals and adequate hiding spaces.
