Fungia spp. (Oval Orange) is a solitary large polyp stony (LPS) coral known for its distinctive oval shape and bright orange coloration. This coral belongs to the family Fungiidae and is prized for its unique appearance and relatively easy care compared to other LPS corals.
Lighting: Moderate lighting is recommended to maintain vibrant colouration without causing stress. LED or T5 lighting systems with adjustable intensity work well.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal. Too strong a current can cause tissue damage, while too little flow may lead to detritus accumulation.
Placement: Place the coral on the substrate or lower rockwork with ample space around it. Fungia spp. can expand fully and requires room to avoid contact with neighbouring corals, which may trigger aggression.
Compatibility: Reef safe with caution; it can sting nearby corals if placed too close. Maintain adequate spacing to prevent coral warfare.
Feeding: While photosynthetic, Fungia spp. benefits from supplemental feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or coral-specific liquid foods once or twice weekly.
Tank Requirements: Suitable for established marine aquariums with stable water parameters. A minimum tank size of 75 litres is recommended to provide sufficient space and water quality stability.
Additional Notes: This coral is a solitary polyp and may move slowly across the substrate. Handle with care during placement to avoid damaging its delicate tissue.
