The Forcipiger flavissimus, commonly known as the Yellow Longnose Butterflyfish, is a visually stunning species prized by marine aquarium enthusiasts. Recognisable by its bright yellow body and elongated snout, this butterflyfish adds vibrant colour and unique behaviour to a well-maintained reef or fish-only tank.
Care Level: Moderate. This species requires stable water conditions and a well-established aquarium.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar species. Best kept singly or as a mated pair in larger tanks.
Diet: Omnivorous. Requires a varied diet including high-quality frozen mysis, brine shrimp, marine algae, and specialised prepared foods to ensure optimal health.
Minimum Tank Size: 150 litres (40 US gallons) to provide adequate swimming space and territory.
Reef Safe: With Caution. While generally reef compatible, they may nip at coral polyps or small invertebrates, so monitoring is advised.
Lighting Requirements: Standard marine aquarium lighting suitable for reef or fish-only setups.
Water Flow: Moderate water movement to simulate natural reef conditions.
Placement: Mid to upper levels of the aquarium where it can swim freely and access feeding areas.
