Euphyllia glabrescens, commonly known as the Orange-Yellow Torch Coral, is a striking large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its long, flowing tentacles and vibrant coloration. This tiny, tank-bred specimen is perfect for hobbyists looking to add dynamic movement and bright colour to their reef tanks.
Lighting: Euphyllia glabrescens thrives under moderate lighting conditions. LED, T5, or metal halide lighting systems that provide a PAR range of approximately 100-150 are ideal to maintain healthy growth and vibrant colouration.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is recommended to gently sway the tentacles without causing damage or excessive retraction. Strong currents can stress the coral and inhibit polyp extension.
Placement: Position this coral in a location with adequate space to prevent contact with neighbouring corals, as Euphyllia species possess sweeper tentacles that can sting nearby corals. Mid to lower areas of the tank are suitable, depending on lighting intensity.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: Reef safe with caution; ensure sufficient spacing from other corals to avoid aggression. It is compatible with most peaceful reef inhabitants.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, but benefits from occasional feeding of meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, or specialised coral foods to promote growth and vibrancy.
Care Level: Moderate. Suitable for aquarists with some experience in maintaining LPS corals.
Additional Notes: Regular water parameter monitoring is essential. Maintain stable conditions with temperature around 24-26°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025, and stable alkalinity and calcium levels for optimal skeletal growth.
