Euphyllia glabrescens (Orange-Yellow) is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its long, flowing tentacles and vibrant orange-yellow coloration. This species, commonly known as the Torch Coral, adds dynamic movement and vivid colour to mature reef aquariums.
Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is recommended to maintain the coral’s vibrant colours and health. LED or T5 lighting systems that provide a balanced spectrum work well.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal. Strong currents can cause the tentacles to retract and stress the coral, while too little flow may lead to detritus accumulation.
Placement: Position this coral in a location with enough space to accommodate its long, sweeping tentacles. Ensure it is placed away from aggressive neighbours to prevent stinging interactions. A mid to lower reef placement is often suitable.
Care Level: Intermediate. Euphyllia glabrescens requires stable water parameters and attentive husbandry but is generally robust once acclimated.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing from other corals, especially other Euphyllia species or corals with long sweeper tentacles.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, but benefits from occasional feeding of meaty foods such as brine shrimp or specialised coral foods.
Regular monitoring of water quality, including calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium, is essential to support skeletal growth and overall health.
