Euphyllia glabrescens, commonly known as the Torch Coral, is a popular large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its long, flowing tentacles tipped with contrasting colours. The NYknicks variant offers a unique and vibrant appearance, making it a striking focal point in any marine aquarium.
This medium-sized specimen requires moderate lighting conditions, ideally provided by T5, LED, or metal halide systems, to maintain its vivid colours and healthy growth. Moderate, indirect water flow is best to ensure the tentacles sway naturally without being damaged by strong currents.
Placement should be in a location with ample space to prevent contact with neighbouring corals, as Euphyllia glabrescens can exhibit aggressive sweeper tentacles. A minimum spacing of 10-15 cm from other corals is recommended to avoid stinging and tissue damage.
Feeding is not essential but can be supplemented with occasional meaty foods such as brine shrimp or specialised coral foods to promote growth and vibrancy. Regular water quality maintenance with stable parameters is crucial for long-term health.
This coral is suitable for intermediate to advanced hobbyists due to its specific care requirements and sensitivity to water quality fluctuations. It is reef safe with adequate spacing from other corals.
